Prapanjam is a rural enterprise that taps into the rich creative talent and ingenuity of rural women to make unique handicraft products. We named our enterprise Prapanjam, a sanskrit reference to our earth, ?the sustaining home?, in symbolic reverence to the great potential, creative power, adaptability and sustaining strength of womankind. Founded in 2009. Training women and inducting them into our unit empowered them to create a great variety of eco-friendly, beautiful, innovative products. We take pride in showcasing their talent and bringing to you products that are not only export-worthy, but meaningful and useful. A range of our products were exported around the world. Here are some of our creations: We have chosen banana tree as our first plant as this tree is treated as symbol of prosperity, health, wealth and etc in APAC region. It's a ritual practice in good celebrative occasions to welcome people by placing the banana trees in both the sides of the entrance. Also, in japan this tree considered as the symbol of growth, brings goodness to family and to personal if we keep this with us. That?s why their currency is printed in banana fiber papers and their marriage dress used to be made up of banana fiber. We have setup a research unit which is working on creating various products made up of banana which will bring happiness and prosperity to the people. And we became experts in making banana fiber based products now. Apart from that they are also getting a safe and pleasant working environment with yoga and other empowerment programs. Achievements In 2009 Thiru got selected to receive ?International Achievers? award for social service by Indian achievers forum. In 2010 Thiru was awarded as ?Star Achiever? with a gold medal from National Integrated Cultural Academy for best rural development organization. Apart from that we have also got reorganization and appreciation from nearby universities and educational institutes and other organizations. We are confident that this work will continue to thrive.
